Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do you have Summer Camps?
A. As of May 2021, we're planning for some in-person Summer Camps in the West Ashley area of Charleston. Watch for announcements in early June 2021! Join our mailing list and like our Facebook page to stay in the loop!
Q. Are you new?
A. Our first season was set to start strong in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic moved us to virtual format, which has gone remarkably well! We have decades of experience, and are excited to provide another great option to the incredible performing arts community in Charleston. We intentionally focus on being a training ground, and we look forward to growing with our students, and preparing them for even bigger things!
Q. Where are your classes? When and where are your performances?
A. As of May 2021, we are in the process of securing a rehearsal studio in the West Ashley area of Charleston. In the meantime, classes are being held online via Zoom (which is actually working very well and is surprisingly personal!) We are planning our 2021-2022 season to be in-person. There will be 2 performances -- in the fall and spring. Our performance venue is TBD. Watch for all these announcements in June 2021!
Q. What shows / programs will you be doing?
A. We are currently planning our next season, which will run from September 2021-May 2022 (coinciding with the school year.) There will be 2 performances -- one in the fall and the other in the spring. Our focus for virtual classes has been on scenes, monologues, improv, vignette and variety pieces.
Q. What are your plans during the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic? What safety measures are in place?
A. Our classes are currently online via the Zoom platform. BUT, we're planning for Summer 2021 camps and the 2021-2022 season to be in-person in the West Ashley area of Charleston. When in-person, we will follow all recommended CDC guidelines and protocols to ensure safety for all.
Q. Does my child need to audition to be in your programs?
A. Auditions are currently not required to participate in Rosewood Players classes or camps. We believe every child deserves a chance to blossom through the creative arts. Every participant will be cast in any showcase productions. Auditions will usually be held to determine who plays which role. Every student has the opportunity to shine. Students must follow the Code of Conduct to remain a participant.
Q. Can my child with special needs enroll?
A. We warmly welcome any student who wants to perform. A parent/caregiver may be asked to assist, if needed. Please contact us with any questions.
Q. Are there any additional costs or fees?
A. There may be a small registration fee, depending on the class/camp. Families will be asked to create or purchase a costume or prop for their child, but it need not be expensive, and we're here to help! Tickets to our live performances must be purchased by all; This is how we offset the high cost of renting a performance space. Other optional opportunities may occasionally be offered, such as playbill advertising, purchasing t-shirts, gear or recordings of performances, but these are optional.
Q. Are there any volunteering requirements for parents/guardians?
A. Parents/guardians are not required to volunteer at our events, but they're welcome to do so if they desire. We do ask that all parents/guardians help secure their own child's costume and makeup prior to performances. We will provide guidance, and we're certainly here to help!
Q. Do you offer other classes?
A. We have many exciting plans in the works! We will soon offer additional classes exploring a wide variety of visual, literary and performing arts for kids and adults! Sign up for our mailing list and like our Facebook page to stay in the loop.
Q. Can I make a donation, and will it be tax-deductible?
A. Any donations, playbill advertising, sponsorships, etc. are not tax deductible at this time. We will, however, give a percentage of our profits to our favorite local charities.
